European Action Week is an event organized and promoted by the youth association network Generation Europe – The Academy.

Local youth groups from 14 European countries declared 4-11 October 2024 as their European Action Week. Under the slogan “Act Local – Connect European – Think Global!”, they organized events, street actions, and other activities for democracy, sustainability, and social inclusion.

For example, the local group from Marseille (France) hosted a series of Escape Room experiences for tourists and residents on the city’s beaches to raise awareness about climate change. In Gdansk (Poland), an eco-festival was organized, while actions against discrimination took place in Barcelona (Spain), Budapest (Hungary), and Munich (Germany). Some youth groups campaigned for improvements and equal opportunities in the education system, while others presented podcast projects to promote understanding between generations and different parts of society. Peer-to-peer education also played an important role: the local group from Ploiești (Romania) invited other secondary and high school students to participate in workshops on civic engagement.

Generation Europe – The Academy is an international network of youth organizations and a funding program for European cooperation, coordinated and implemented by the International Association for Education and Exchange (IBB e.V.). More than 40 organizations from 14 European countries were involved. They worked together in trilateral partnerships to enable social participation—regardless of origin, parental income, and prior success in the formal education system.

The partner organizations supported the local groups in which young people were encouraged to develop local action plans to make a difference in their communities. During international youth meetings, the young people supported each other in their local projects and took the problem-solving processes to a new European level.

During the European Action Week, the young people from Esplora presented their podcast project at the microphones of Wideline Radio, while interviewing passersby to gather material for their podcast “Ai nostri Tempi” (In Our Time).
